An embodiment of the present invention relates to a high pressure pump for an internal combustion engine and, more specifically, relates to a high pressure pump for an internal combustion engine to transfer fuel of high pressure to a combustion chamber of a cylinder head. The high pressure pump for an internal combustion engine uses a structure where one end of an opening and closing object is inserted into a valve sheet, and a structure where a shock absorbing unit is installed in the opening and closing object to effectively block an impact noise occurring when the opening and closing object moves.
