Detection holes (305a, 304a) are provided in intermediate wheels (305, 304) composing a wheel train (302) connecting a motor rotor (303) and a pointer wheel (301) supporting a pointer and are provided so as to overlap once during a single rotation of the pointer wheel (301). The position where all the detection holes (305a, 304a) overlap is limited to the position where the paths of all the detection holes (305a, 304a) intersect. As a result, it is possible to detect the position of a pointer without providing a gear for needle position detection other than the intermediate wheels (304-306) composing the wheel train (302), reduce the planar space of the planes of rotation of the pointer wheel (301) and intermediate wheels (304-306) compared to cases in which a gear for needle position detection is used to detect the pointer position, and reduce the size of a timepiece such that highly accurately pointer position detection is possible. |
