The method and device alterately operates two printing units (05.1, 05.2), with web (02) running through them. In the first operating situation, the first printing unit is in the print-on position and the guiding element (01) in the feed and/or discharge is switched off, while the second printing unit is in the print-off position and the guiding element in its feed/discharge area is placed against it. In the second operating situation, the reverse is true.
