PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyimide film having a controlled primary structure and selecting and controlling a wide coefficient of linear expansion and to provide a method for producing the polyimide film. SOLUTION: The polyimide film is obtained as follows: (a) 5-95 mol% of aromatic diamines having a benzoxazole structure is mixed with (b) 95-5 mol% of aromatic diamines having a diphenyl ether structure and the resultant mixture is dissolved in a solvent. (c) Aromatic tetracarboxylic acid anhydrides are further added to provide a polyamic acid solution. The resultant polyamic acid solution is stirred and/or mixed at room temperature for at least≥12 h after starting the mixing and then cast/dried/heat-treated to afford the polyimide film having a and b assuming ranges of 0.4≤a≤0.6 and 2.5≤b≤4.0 when the coefficient of linear expansion [Y] of the film and mol% [X] of the aromatic diamines having the diphenyl ether structure are represented by formula [Y]=a[X]+b.
