An automatic protecting device of a camera for a portable terminal is provided to open and close the front unit of the camera automatically through magnets and a coil, thereby preventing foreign substance from permeating into the inside of the camera. A shield plate(10) has the first opening hole(12) for opening a front part of a lens. Blades(20) open/close the first opening hole(12) by sliding actions, and has cam projections(22). Rotating plates(30) are equipped with the second opening holes for opening a front part of the lens, and have cam holes(36) for opening/closing the blades(20) by moving the cam projections(22) during self rotation. A cover(50) combines the rotating plates(30) with the shielding plate(10) in rotatable state. A core(40) is fixed to the shield plate(10). A coil(42) forms the core(40) as an electromagnet when power is applied, by being wound on the core(40). Magnets(44) generate magnetic forces toward the core(40).
