PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering column device which is superior in operation feeling and operability, and capable of expecting an increase in the holding force while reducing the cost and size. SOLUTION: When a first gear member G1 and a second gear member G2 are relatively moved in the approaching direction close to each other, a first gear g1 and a second gear g2 with their tooth traces being not parallel to each other are engaged with each other. In this condition, the first gear member G1 and the second gear member G2 are changed in posture with respect to each other, and the tooth trace of the first gear g1 and the tooth trace of the second gear g2 are forcibly parallel to each other. Thus, irrespective of the positional relationship before the engagement, the high meshing ratio can be ensured by the engagement, and the holding force can be increased. Further, the holding force can be ensured even when the number of teeth is suppressed to be small, and the good operation feeling can be ensured favorably even when the gear members are lightweight and compact.
