<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator device comprising two shafts neighboring each other in each of which a plurality of cars are moved up and down, and a plurality of main ropes for individually pulling the cars, joined to the cars so as to be approximately balanced with the cars in the shafts neighboring each other via the main ropes, and having improved operating efficiency. <P>SOLUTION: The elevator device comprises the two shafts 7A, 7B neighboring each other in each of which the plurality of cars 1a, 1b, 1c, 1d, 1e, 1f and 1g are moved up and down, the plurality of main ropes 2a, 2b and 2c for individually pulling the cars, joined to the cars so as to be approximately balanced with the cars in the shafts neighboring each other via the main ropes, a plurality of winders 3a, 3b and 3c fixed to the main ropes, respectively, at fixed positions for moving them in the vertical direction, and a laterally moving mechanisms 12a, 12b, 12c and 12d provided on the way of the shafts.
