PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for industrially stably producing polyarylate having 0.84-1.80 dl/g inherent viscosity. SOLUTION: The method for producing polyarylate comprising a dihydric phenol and an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and having 0.84-1.80 dl/g inherent viscosity comprises interfacial polymerization in the presence of a polymerization catalyst represented by a specific formula while the rotation number of an agitator is controlled so that the agitating power of an agitator is 0.4-1.2 kW/m<SP>3</SP>.
