The invention concerns reinforcing glass yarns whereof the composition includes the following constituents as defined below expressed in wt. %: 50 65 % SiO2; 12 20 % Al2O3; 12 17 % CaO; 6 12 % MgO; <= 2, preferably <= 3CaO/MgO; 0.1 0.8 %, preferably <= 0.6 Li2O; 03 % BaO+SrO; 0 3 % B2 O3; 0 3 % TiO2; < 2 % Na2O+K 2O; 0 1 % F2; < 1 % Fe2O3. Said yarns consist of a glass providing an excellent compromise between its mechanical properties represented by the specific Young modulus and melting and fiber drawing conditions.
