Honeycomb structure (21) that is capable of inhibiting clogging of cells (28) at filter circumferential part (21B). The honeycomb structure (21) comprises filter core part (21A) with a square cross section and, arranged on the external surface of the filter core part (21A), filter circumferential part (21B), and has a circular cross section. The filter core part (21A) is composed of first honeycomb members (22A), and the filter circumferential part (21B) is provided with second honeycomb members (22B). In the honeycomb structure (21), packing layer (35) is packed in place of a honeycomb member with an extremely small perpendicular cross section.
