PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which can reduce the banding phenomenon due to a flight deflection. SOLUTION: The printer comprises a printing head 200, a selection information generating means 19, a printing element selecting means 20 and a printing head control means 22. In the printing head 200, a plurality of printing elements for forming dots are arranged in each of a row direction as a direction in which the printing elements move relatively to a medium, and a column direction nearly orthogonal to the row direction. The printing head 200 is constituted to be able to print the dots at positions of the medium which can be regarded as the same in the row direction. The selection information generating means 19 is set for selecting as a usable printing element any one of the printing elements constituted to be able to print the dots at positions of the medium which can be regarded as the same in the row direction, for every row in the row direction of the printing head. The printing element selecting means 20 selects the usable printing element on the basis of the information.
