PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a print system arranged to select a printer for printing out a document automatically based on the state of the document (e.g. color information, size information), and to provide an image reading apparatus and its control method. SOLUTION: A scanner 10 reads out document image data from a document and detects the state of the document (e.g. color information, size information) from such document image data. A printer 20 suitable for outputting the document image data thus read out is selected from a plurality of printers 20 (printers 20a, 20b and 20c are generally referred to printer 20) based on the state of the document, and print data described by page description language is transmitted to the selected printer.
