PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a bis(fluorine-containing phthalic acid) compound, capable of efficiently producing the compound by using an excessive amount of a fluorine-containing phthalonitrile as a starting material. SOLUTION: This method for producing the bis(fluorine-containing phthalic acid) compound (V) comprises producing the bis(fluorine-containing phthalic acid) compound (V) from the fluorine-containing phthalonitrile (I) through reactions expressed by illustration (Z is a divalent organic group; p is 2, 3 or 4; and q is smaller than p by 1), wherein the first reaction is conducted by using the excessive amount of the fluorine-containing phthalonitrile (I), then the second reaction is conducted without removing the unreacted fluorine-containing phthalonitrile (I), and a fluorine-containing phthalic acid (IV) and the bis(fluorine-containing phthalic acid) compound (V) are separated from each other after completion of the reactions.
