<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for tape traveling direction detection that can easily detect the traveling direction of a tape without influencing the travel of the tape. <P>SOLUTION: The tape traveling direction detecting device 10 is equipped with a 1st sensor 12, a 2nd sensor 14, and a traveling direction discriminating portion 16. The 1st sensor 12 detects the winding diameter of a magnetic tape wound around a machine reel 36 without contacting and outputs a signal when a designated winding diameter is reached and the 2nd sensor 14 detects the winding diameter of the magnetic tape wound around a cartridge reel 38 without contacting and outputs a signal when a designated diameter is reached. The traveling direction discriminating portion 16 discriminates the traveling direction of the magnetic tape from output signals from the 1st sensor 12 and 2nd sensor 14. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
