A telephone communication system is accessed by card input to a reader (11) supplying data to a memory (14) organised on a group basis. The card information relates to identification of the user, the call number and the cash value. The memory output is connected via a selector unit (2) to the communication link to the network. A central credit card centre (4) is connected for authorisation. Following the first access by the card, information is held in a buffer and repeated calls may be made until a set limit is reached. ADVANTAGE - Allows repeated use without unnecessary connections.
