CONSTITUTION:A polar conversion part 16 performs polar conversion for images in respective reception fields stored successively in a reception field memory 15 by dividing an object image IMG of NXN size into the reception fields which are small areas of mXm size to store the output (hypercolumn image) of the polar conversion in a hypercolumn memory 17, and a feature extraction part 18 performs an image process according to the polar conversion output to extract features. In this case, polar conversion on an optional curved surface such as a spherical surface and a cylinder, or a plane, etc., is applicable to the polar conversion. |
