The system has a hollow column (22) with a mounting mechanism for attaching it to a support in the region of a motor vehicle maintenance work area. A number of maintenance devices (36,42,66,86) inside the column have input (30,60,70,80) and output (78,92) connections or controls enabling their use by maintenance mechanics. The column can be arranged round a column of a vehicle maintenance lift. It is covered on three side by plates with a fourth side at least partially open to accommodate lateral lifting elements. USE - Column can contain, inter alia, a battery charger, exhaust gas extractor, test and diagnosis systems and a communications unit.
