PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the filling efficiency of intake in each of a plurality of cylinders in a one-valve type intake system. SOLUTION: In an engine system 10 provided with an engine 200 provided with an impulse valve 224 on an intake pipe 204 and provided with an operation angle variable type VVT 226 for variably controlling an operation angle and a phase angle of the intake valve 207, and ECU 100 performs valve drive control. In the control, when an operation condition of the engine 200 corresponds to an impulse charge area, the ECU 100 drives the impulse valve 224 so as to open and close it, executes impulse charging utilizing the pulsation of the intake, controls the operation angle variable type VVT 226, and thereby, the opening/closing timing of the intake valve 207 is changed from reference timing to the opening/closing timing for the impulse charging. At this time, valve-closing timing is spark-advanced to a neighborhood to the intake BDC, valve-opening timing is spark-delayed to a neighborhood to the intake TDC, and thereby, an intake overlap amount between mutual cylinders is reduced.
