To provide a method of detecting an abnormality in bone metabolism by using a gene strongly expressing in osteoclasts; a method of screening a compound having an effect of treating and/or preventing an abnormality in bone metabolism; and a medicinal composition for treating and/or preventing an abnormality in bone metabolism. A method of detecting an abnormality in bone metabolism by using the expression of human Siglec-15 gene as an indication; a medicinal composition containing an antibody which has an activity of specifically recognizing human Siglec-15 and inhibiting the formation of osteoclasts; and so on.
