PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a retrieval system for acquiring a proper retrieval result without taking much time and labor to examine a retrieval character string on a user. SOLUTION: A retrieval system 1 connected to a database 4 is provided with an information retrieval part 21 for generating retrieval conditions as the set of elements for narrowing down retrieval results from an input retrieval character string, and for retrieving information included in the database 4 by using the retrieval conditions; reduced retrieval parts 22 and 23 for generating reduced retrieval conditions as retrieval conditions that elements for narrowing down retrieval results are more reduced as compared with the retrieval conditions generated by the information retrieval part 21 from the input retrieval character string, and for retrieving information included in the database 4 by using the reduced retrieval conditions; and an output part 24 for outputting a retrieval result acquired by the reduced retrieval parts 22 and 23.
