PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gripping device capable of opening and closing a gripping means attached to a rotary body without causing the breakage of wire. SOLUTION: This gripping device 10 comprises a table 12, a drive body 14 disposed on the upper part of the table 12, and a turret 16 rotatingly driven on the side of the drive body 14. A chip removal device 18 for removing the chips entangled with a workpiece 40 when the workpiece 40 is cut is installed on the peripheral surface of the turret 16. The drive body 14 comprises a cylinder 20. When the chip removal device 18 is rotated to a predetermined position, the rod 20B of the cylinder 20 advances to move the moving member 122 of the chip removal device 18 for opening hands 114A, 114B.
