A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating cancer containing inflexinol as an active ingredient is provided to induce apoptosis and to suppress the growth of the cancer cell. A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating cancer comprises inflexinol of the chemical formula I as an active ingredient. The composition is the form of a food composition for preventing cancer and improving symptom caused by the cancer. The composition comprises (a) pharmaceutically effective dose of inflexinol and (b) pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
