PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a receiver and a receiving method by which a receivable broadcasting station is surely selected, with proper reception quality, when performing frequency search. SOLUTION: The receiver is provided with a main antenna 2a and a sub antenna 2b such that mutually complement the directivity, makes a main tuner 4, having an antenna switching circuit 4a in which signals received by the main antenna 2a and the sub antenna 2b are input to be switched to either one; an intermediate frequency amplifying circuit 4e which generates an S meter signal; and a function for demodulating, reproducing the signals input from the antennas, and a sub tuner 6, having the intermediate frequency amplifying circuit 4e to which only the sub antenna 2b is connected, which generates and outputs the S meter signal simultaneously perform, frequency search operations from the same frequency, in a state such that a microcomputer 7 makes the main tuner 4 receive the signals by the main antenna 2a, and makes the sub tuner 6 receive the signals by the sub antenna 2b, and the antenna of the main tuner 4 is switched to the antenna which is received by a tuner whose frequency search is stopped.
