PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radiographic image reading apparatus of low cost that is small, has less number of components, and is easily manufactured. SOLUTION: This radiographic image reading apparatus includes a cassette insertion opening into which a cassette is inserted, an image reading means for reading image information accumulated on a photostimulable phosphor sheet mounted in the cassette inserted from the cassette insertion opening, a fan for sucking the outside air into the device or a fan for exhausting the air inside the device, a temperature detecting means for detecting temperature inside the device, a shutter arranged in the cassette insertion opening, a shutter opening/closing means for opening and closing the shutter, and a control section that, when the temperature detecting means detects a temperature of a predetermined temperature or higher, makes the shutter opening/closing means open the shutter and makes the fans starts to operate.
