The device has an analog/digital converter (204) for converting an analog signal (202) into a digital signal. An asynchronous delta-sigma-modulator generates an asynchronous square wave, which linearly depends on the analog signal. A time/digital-converter measures edges of the square wave to generate a sampling value of the digital signal. A digital modulator (206) modulates the digital signal. The time/digital-converter works as a high speed sampler and samples asynchronous square wave as an input signal. An independent claim is also included for a method for quantification of a signal using an analog/digital converter.
