<p>Provided is a vertical magnetic recording medium including at least an undercoat layer, an orientation control layer, a magnetic recording layer, and a protection layer layered on a non-magnetic substrate. The magnetic recording layer is formed by three or more layers including a first magnetic recording layer, a second magnetic layer, and a third magnetic layer in this order from the substrate side. Between the second magnetic recording layer and the third magnetic recording layer is arranged an exchange coupling reduction layer for reducing the exchange coupling between the layers. The magnetic recording layers have crystalline magnetic anisotropy energy (Ku) as follows: 4 x 106 (erg/cc) or above in the first magnetic recording layer, 2 x 106 (erg/cc) or below in the second magnetic recording layer, and 1 x 106 (erg/cc) or below in the third magnetic recording layer. Disclosed also is a magnetic recording/reproduction device using the vertical magnetic recording medium.</p> |
