PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming method which can form images by an image forming material and images by an image reception layer in an image transfer medium, clearly and in the desired configuration on a recording medium. SOLUTION: The image forming method includes: an image forming process that forms images with the image forming material 62 containing at least a release agent on a reception layer 64 utilizing an image transfer medium 20 having the image reception layer 64 containing pigments on at least one side of a support 66; an overlaying process that overlays a recording medium 22 over on the image formed surface of the image transfer medium 20 and creates the laminated body 68; a heating and pressurization process that carries out heating and pressurization of the laminated body 68; and a removal process that removes from the laminated body 68 the area corresponding to the image section of the image reception layer 64 together with the support 66.
