PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeder capable of reliably locating a pressing plate to the predetermined position according to the paper feed status by moving a stopper by the turning operation of an operational member and the rotation of a paper feed roller. SOLUTION: A pressing plate 2 is urged by a coil spring 4 from the lower limit position to the upper limit position. When an operational member 6 is turned in the direction of an arrow D from the stop position to the operational position, a stopper 5 is synchronously turned in the direction of an arrow E toward the locking position by the engagement of a gear part 51 with a gear part 61, and a stopper piece 52 rocks the pressing plate 2 toward the lower limit position against the elastic force of the coil spring 4. When the stopper piece 52 is engaged with a recess 22, the stopper 5 is fixed to the locking position. A transmission member 7 moves the stopper 5 in the direction of an arrow E' from the lock position to the release position by a lever 72 when transmitting the rotation to a paper feed roller 3.
