PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monitoring method of the state of a periodically moving object which enables rapid response in the field, while monitoring further a signal waveform, taking it into consideration that it is impossible, in view of hardware/software and cost, to fully incorporate a technique for detailed diagnosis into conventional methods therefor wherein a fourth order moment of a probabilistic density function of a vibration signal is normalized for calculation. SOLUTION: A peak waveform of the amplitude of vibration generated at the time when the periodically moving object is in abnormality is detected. A statistical sixth order normalized moment Q being made a continuous time system, (1) the moment using data in the number of N and the sixth order normalized moment when a shock wave does not occur and (2) the moment and the sixth order normalized moment when the shock wave occurs are determined, and monitoring of the state of the periodically moving object and determination by a graphic display are performed on the basis of a formula 11 in this method.
