A METHOD OF SELECTING A REFERENCE PICTURE FOR PROCESSING A FIELD MACROBLOCK

A reference picture selection method for coding a frame picture having macroblock is provided to offer reference picture information used in motion compensation by differently determining reference picture index according to a coding mode of the macroblock. The reference frame picture list including a plurality of reference frame pictures is obtained. The reference frame picture index of a plurality of reference frame pictures which is in the reference frame picture list is determined based on the display order information about a plurality of reference frame pictures. The motion vector information about the current field macroblock is obtained. The reference field picture index about the current field macroblock is obtained. The current field macroblock is decoded based on the motion vector information and selected reference field picture.
