Attenuated invasive E. coli strains and their applications as an intracellular vector for therapeutic molecules

Vector for delivering a nucleic acid into eukaryotic target cells comprises a nonpathogenic recombinant Escherichia colibacterium that has been modified by chromosomal integration (by allelic exchange) of genes conferring the ability to penetrate into the cytoplasm of the target cells, is incapable of surviving in the cytoplasm of the target cells and is modified with foreign DNA fragments. Independent claims are also included for: (1) transferring DNA into eukaryotic cells other than animal or human cells in vivo or in vitro using a vector as above; (2) transferring DNA or RNA into human or animal cells in vitro or ex vivo from a biological sample or human or animal origin using a vector as above.
