PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wireless communication apparatus and a timing inference method for preventing an incorrect timing delay from being calculated. SOLUTION: The wireless communication apparatus 1 includes: a selection part 203 for selecting a reference symbol received from a communication partner or an offset reference symbol; a correlation operation part 205 for finding out correlation data between the reference symbol selected by the selection part and known information concerned with the received reference symbol; a comparison part 207 for comparing a peak of the correlation data with a peak threshold; and a timing calculation part 209 for calculating a timing difference from a synchronizing state with the communication partner based on the peak. When the peak is the peak threshold or less, the comparison part instructs the selection part to reselect the reference symbol. The selection part selects the received reference symbol in the initial selection, and in the reselection, selects the offset reference symbol. When the peak of the correlation data concerned with the reselected reference symbol is higher than the peak threshold, the comparison part instructs the timing calculation part to calculate the timing difference.
