<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a planar lighting device both obscuring a boundary and downsizing in thickness even when employing a local dimming technology for high definition/power saving, and a liquid crystal display equipped with the same. <P>SOLUTION: The planar lighting device includes a plurality of light sources 22, a light guiding layer 26 arranged on an emission side of the light sources and guiding a light from the light sources, and a reflection layer 25 arranged on an opposite side of the light guiding layer from the light sources and transmitting a part of the light, wherein the light guiding layer has a light scattering property of scattering the light. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
