ELECTRONIC BALLAST DEVICE AND LAMP OPERATION METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting device with multiple light levels using a single ballast.

SOLUTION: The method for operating a first lamp set through a first lamp drive circuit and selectively operating a second lamp set through a second lamp drive circuit in combination therewith includes: monitoring a first value corresponding to a direct current carried to lamps of the second lamp set through a first input line connected to a lamp terminal of the second lamp set and a control circuit adapted to be selectively connected to a power source of the ballast; monitoring a second value corresponding to a reference current through a second input line connected to the second lamp drive circuit; calculating a ratio of the first value to the second value; and operating the second lamp drive circuit based on the calculated ratio.
