<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently prevent a light leakage phenomenon without generating short circuits and to improve image quality. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes an insulating first substrate, gate lines for transmitting scanning signals, data lines for transmitting image signals, a second substrate facing the first substrate, a liquid crystal material injected between the first substrate and the second substrate, pixels demarcated by the gate lines and the data lines, a black matrix for defining each pixel, and pixel electrodes separately formed for each pixel, and storage capacitors are formed between the pixel electrodes and the gate lines of a previous stage.
