PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering device preventing an inner column from slipping out from an outer column even though a telescopic clamp of the inner column is released against the outer column. SOLUTION: When a male steering shaft 12B is inserted into a female steering shaft 12A, the front end of a shuttlecock 71 of a retainer plate 70 is contacted with an addendum 61 of a female spline 60 and is elastically deformed to reduce the diameter thereof, thus allowing insertion of the male steering shaft 12B into the female steering shaft 12A. Upon completion of the insertion of the male steering shaft 12B into the female steering shaft 12A, the shuttlecock 71 of the retainer plate 70 is elastically returned to enlarge the diameter thereof, so that an outer diameter sizeϕB of the retainer plate 70 is larger than an addendum circle diameterϕA of the female spline 60. When the male steering shaft 12B is about to slip out from the female steering shaft 12A, the front end of the shuttlecock 71 of the retainer plate 70 is caught by the addendum 61 of the female spline 60.
