<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a counting processing apparatus which can perform counting of the number of sheets and a shift to the following processing facility at the same step. <P>SOLUTION: The counting processing apparatus includes a loading stage 13 to load a plurality of sheets 11 thereon. The apparatus includes a transfer stage 15 to which the sheets loaded on the loading stage 13 are conveyed, for each predetermined number of sheets. The apparatus includes: a counting device 17 to count the plurality of sheets loaded on the loading stage 13 one by one while counting the uppermost sheet first; and a horizontal conveyance mechanism 19 to horizontally convey the predetermined number of sheets counted by the counting device 17 to a conveying stage. In the counting processing apparatus 21, the counting device 17 counts the plurality of sheets 11 one by one while counting the uppermost sheet first, thereafter, the horizontal conveyance mechanism 19 horizontally conveys the predetermined number of sheets to the transfer stage 15, and accordingly, the predetermined number of sheets are conveyed to the transfer stage 15.
