PURPOSE: An input method of a portable terminal and an apparatus thereof are provided to allocate mapped function mediums to a specific area. CONSTITUTION: A display unit(412) displays a virtual keypad which consists of the combination of virtual keys. The display unit includes an input field for displaying user input which is generated from the virtual keypad. A control unit(418) recognizes user input which is generated from a specific key. The control unit displays an entity on a specific area of the virtual keypad.
