Provided are a method and apparatus for displaying a video image while hiding caption: obtaining the hiding area information, and determining a hiding area according to the hiding area information; obtaining the hiding time period information; and when the video image is displayed, displaying a preset image in the hiding area of the video image during the hidden time period. The solution of the present invention can flexibly hide both add-on caption and embedded caption.
