PURPOSE: A portable terminal and a control method thereof are provided to minimize power consumption in a processor while playing audio data. CONSTITUTION: A processor unit(200) reads audio data stored in a memory unit. An audio signal processing unit(300) decodes the audio data received from the processor unit. The audio signal processing unit converts the decoded signal into an analog signal and outputs the analog signal. When the size of the audio data transmitted from the memory unit is over a predetermined reference value, the audio signal processing unit changes the mode of the processor unit into a sleep mode.
