The method involves measuring temperature by a thermocouple (107) positioned at an inlet of a plasma reactor (102) that is upstream of a selective catalytic reduction catalyst (105). The measured temperature is compared with a temperature threshold using a controller (106). An instruction of operation is sent from the controller to an electrical supply (103) supplying energy to the plasma reactor such that the plasma is active when the measured temperature is less than the threshold, and the plasma reactor is inactive when the measured temperature is greater than the threshold. An independent claim is also included for a monitoring system.
