PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a direct-injection type diesel engine, in which air within a cylinder can be utilized efficiently, and to provide a piston for the direct-injection type diesel engine.SOLUTION: A direct-injection type diesel engine includes a piston 10 in which a cavity is constituted of a first cavity 12 having an opening on a top face 11 opposed to a cylinder head and a second cavity 15 having an opening on a bottom face 13 of the first cavity 12, and a fuel is injected radially toward a lip part 16 that is an opening edge of the second cavity 15. The piston 10 includes a tapered protrusion 20 which is formed integrally in a corner formed from the bottom face 13 of the first cavity 12 and a side face 14 of the first cavity 12 and in a plane view of the piston 10 opposed to the top face 11, extends from the side face 14 of the first cavity 12 toward a portion where a virtual line indicating a fuel injection direction crosses the lip part 16 and includes a proximal end and a distal end 21 on the virtual line. |
