METHOD FOR DRIVING BISTABLE ELECTRO-OPTIC DISPLAY

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a controller capable of supplying an accurate gray level of an electro-optic display without the need of frequently flashing a solid color on a display.SOLUTION: A bistable electro-optic display has a plurality of pixels, and each pixel is capable of displaying at least three gray levels. The display is driven by a method comprising: a step of storing a look-up table containing data representing impulses necessary to convert an initial gray level to a final gray level; a step of storing data representing at least an initial state of each pixel of the display; and a step of generating an output signal representing the impulse necessary to convert the initial state of at least one pixel of the display to a desired final state, as determined from the look-up table. The invention also provides a method for reducing a remnant voltage of an electro-optic display.
