METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR CLASSIFYING IMAGES

An unsupervised method of discovering image categories in a set of images comprises generating, for each image, a histogram vector containing counts of visual words from a dictionary of visual words. An occurrence matrix is generated in which respective rows are histogram vectors for respective images. Sparse principal components of the occurrence matrix are determined, each sparse principal component associated with an image category.
