PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a continuously variable transmission (CVT) capable of preventing sliding-down of a vehicle while ensuring start performance on an uphill road.SOLUTION: In a case where a vehicle is stopped on an uphill road having a gradient at which the vehicle is capable of ensuring start performance without returning a transmission ratio to the lowest transmission ratio, a transmission controller 12 performs idle-up of an engine 1 to enhance holding force of a belt 23, and changes the groove widths of a pair of pulleys 21, 22 so as to return a transmission ratio to a target transmission ratio closer to the highest transmission ratio than the lowest transmission ratio, and then completes idle-up when the transmission ratio returns to the target transmission ratio. |
