There is disclosed a composition comprising diatomaceous earth and a colouring agent intermixed with the diatomaceous earth. There is also disclosed a spray apparatus for holding contents comprising the composition and a compressed propellant for propelling the composition. There is also disclosed use of the apparatus, or of the composition, to control a population of pests. There is also disclosed a method of controlling a population of pests, the method comprising applying the composition to a surface. There is also disclosed a furniture apparatus comprising a surface and comprising the composition applied to the surface. There is also disclosed a method of preparing diatomaceous earth for use as a pesticide, the method comprising intermixing a colouring agent with the diatomaceous earth.
