PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a non-contact infrared (IR) thermometer for eliminating stray IR signals from surrounding objects.SOLUTION: The non-contact infrared (IR) thermometer for measuring temperature from a surface of an object includes: a sensor 7 attached to a heating element 12; and a thermal shield 10 having an interior surface positioned within a sensor's field of view that has high emissivity. An electronic circuit 14 controlling the heating element 12 maintains temperatures of the sensor 7 and the shield 10 substantially close to anticipated surface temperature of the object. The sensor 7 is further thermally coupled to a reference temperature sensor 30. An optical system positioned in front of the shield 10 focuses thermal radiation from the object on the surface of the sensor 7, while the shield 10 prevents stray radiation from reaching the sensor 7. Signals from the IR sensor 7 and the reference sensors 30 are used to calculate object's surface temperature. |
