PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for easily controlling the free chlorine concentration, a sterilization method using the same, and a new device for easily controlling the free chlorine concentration.SOLUTION: The disclosed method for controlling the free chlorine concentration using a plurality of electrodes includes a step (i) and a step (ii) in this order. In the step (i), the potential of a first positive electrode and the potential of a first negative electrode are adjusted in an aqueous solution 30 including chloride ions, such that the free chlorine concentration in the aqueous solution 30 is increased. In the step (ii), the potential of a second positive electrode and the potential of a second negative electrode are adjusted, such that the free chlorine concentration in the aqueous solution 30 is decreased. The difference in the potential between the second positive electrode and the second negative electrode in the step (ii) is smaller than the difference in the potential between the first positive electrode and the first negative electrode in the step (i).
