619,974. Optical apparatus. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd., CLEAVER, R. F., and SOTHCOTT, P. July 22, 1946, No. 21832. [Class 97 (i)] [Also in Group XL (c)] Two cathode-ray oscillographs mounted with their axes inclined to each other in the same vertical plane and viewed in superposition in a pair of mirrors, at least one of which is light transmitting. As shown, the oscillograph 2 is viewed directly through a light-transmitting mirror 3, and the oscillograph 1 by reflection in this mirror and in an opaque front silvered mirror or polished metal plate 4. A light shield 11 and the casing portion 12 prevent either tube being seen otherwise. To prevent internal reflections in the mirror 3 it is front silvered on orange-yellow glass or glass incorporating an orange-yellow filter layer, the trace of the oscilloscope being orange-yellow and that of the oscilloscope 1 being blue. A blue filter 9 may be placed in front of the oscilloscope 1. A lens 5 may be used to render the oscilloscopes of apparently the same size and a lens 10, which may be negative or positive, to render them of apparently the same curvature. In another arrangement, the mirror 3 is front silvered on an optically polarizing plate, and the filter 9 replaced by a second polarizing plate, the plates being disposed so that the beams reaching the eye from the two oscillographs are polarized at right angles. Specification 496,238, [Group XL], is referred to.
|
