Apparatuses and methods are provided for driving an input conductor with voltage pulses. The pulses can beneficially invoke the skin effect to generate a time-varying magnetic vector potential that projects radially from the input conductor. The magnetic vector potential can provide an electric field for inducing output pulses in an output circuit. The pulses can have a sufficiently fast rise time (e.g., less than 30 ns) to induce a sufficiently high voltage in the output circuit. The input conductor and output circuit can have various configurations, e.g., the output circuit can extend away from the input conductor. Such a geometry can reduce coupling between the circuits, e.g., between electromagnetic fields caused by currents in the circuits. A directional electric field can be produced from an end of an input solenoid and received by an output solenoid above, when the pulses charge the input solenoid to act as a capacitor. |
